The Crucible In 1953, when Arthur Miller's The Crucible'' opened on Broadway, its metaphoric implications were clear. It was the era of Senator Joseph R. McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee. Miller's play about the Salem witch trials of 1692 was inspired, Miller said, by that crusade. A new film version of The Crucible,'' now available on video, hasn't lost any of its fury, relevance or sting. There's stark beauty in Andrew Dunn's photography and production designer Lilly Kilvert's meticulously re-created Salem. And there's an awful, piercing truth in the performances of Daniel Day-Lewis, Winona Ryder, Joan Allen and Paul Scofield as members of a community destroyed by guilt, paranoia and betrayal. Director Nicholas Hytner doesn't soften or cosmeticize Miller's tale -- it's often uncomfortable to watch -- and he draws an emotional pitch from his actors that helps us understand the mob fury and irrational fear that make a situation like the one in Salem possible. Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows
Sherlock Holmes: a Game of Shadows, was one of my favorite movies I’ve ever seen. It had comedy, action, suspense, and content that really made you think about the motivation of some of the characters. Robert Downey Jr. was spectacular, as usual. Jared Harris played a great antagonist and showed his true dark side in this film that really tied together with Sherlock Holmes personality. Although he didn’t really look like a villain, he proved me wrong by his constant vicious attacks on Sherlock and his partner.
The movie has some very interesting characters. Ones who play mind games and like a nice challenge, it isn’t stated in the movie but it’s obvious that they are mad geniuses. Sherlock is a kid at heart but a genius at the same time, this makes him a very loveable character. When he is faced with danger he is quick to combat it by predicting what his opponent will do before they do it, something not too many people can do in mid-fight.
The special effects were some of the best I’ve seen in a very long time. Running through the woods, rifles firing, slow motion, seeing bullets wiz past heads, pure greatness. When the bullets would misfire and hit a tree you could see the bark of the tree explode in slow motion from the bullet, even the wind from the bullet wizzing by someone was shown by their hair moving or their pant leg getting ripped because it would skim them.
What’s a good movie without a good story line? Well, Sherlock came out on top again on this one. This story line was great, although you would have to see the first one to understand some scenes, but you can’t take anything away from that because it’s expected for a sequel. The story line has a lot to give watching the cast go from country to country trying to stop one man, Professor James Moriarty, from planting more bombs around England and fighting battles everywhere they go.
All in all this was a 4.5 out of 5. Sometimes the dialog was hard to follow from their fast talking British accents, but it wasn’t a very big deal. I do recommend seeing this movie, it’s for everyone. It’s to the point where children can watch it but adults would like it a little more.

Imagine being 40 years old and still living at home with your mother. Then your mom finding a man that she falls in love with and ends up marrying him. You think everything would be perfect right? Wrong the man she marries ends up having a 40 year old son that lives at home too. The movie Step Brothers is a hilarious movie about this situation. If you’re feeling down and need a laugh I would strongly recommend you seeing this movie. Just by hearing the plot of the movie it sounds funny. Two single parents both with 40 year old sons that live at home coming together to be one family. They have to share a room together like little kids would and in the beginning of the movie they hate each other. But then to keep the boys from not being with each other all day the dad gives them one week to find a job. Through that process they begin to like each other and become best friends. They then begin to get an idea to make a company called Prestige Worldwide. That brings them even closer but all the madness brings the parents to start fighting. That causes the parents to get a divorce and then Dale and Brennan start to hate each other again. They then go their separate ways but by the end of the movie they come together and open up karaoke bars all over the country and become very successful. Will Ferrell played as Brennan Huff in the movie. Will Ferrell was outstanding in this movie. In this movie he has to be the 40 year old man that still lives at home with his mom Nancy Huff. Nancy Huff is played by Mary Steenburgen, Mary had an alright performance I thought she could of done better she acted a bit stiff at times and it wasn’t that believable but other than that she did a pretty decent job. Brennan also has another brother Derek. Derek is played by Adam Scott and he’s the little brother that nobody wants he’s made it big time and is very cocky. Adam Scott did a good job as a cocky pain in the butt little brother. Overall together as Mom and Son the team of Will Ferrell and Mary Steenburgen were very funny together and as one did an amazing job. John C. Reilly played as Dale Doback. He is 40 years old and still lives at home with his dad. He wants to follow his dad’s footsteps and become a doctor but he dropped out of school because he said you only have to know people to be successful. His dad Dr. Robert Doback played by Richard Jenkins is a very successful doctor. Richard had done a very stellar performance he acted just how I would imagine a dad would be if he had a 40 year old son that still lived at home, stressed, aggravated, short tempered, but with somewhat of a good spirit. Now most comedies go from kind of a serious situation and funny things happen, but not in Step Brothers the whole time the movie will have you cracking up. The parts that are even supposed to be nice and sweet will have you in your seat laughing. Some of my favorite parts are in the very begging when Brennan and Dale start fighting in the front yard and the fight ends with one hitting the other in the head with a baseball bat and the other one hits him with a golf club. Another one of my favorite parts of the movie are when Brennan and Dale make a music video to try and get their business starting and the song is hilarious and they end up crashing their dads boat. It’s really hard to pick out my favorite parts of the movie because the whole thing is so funny, but I strongly recommend seeing this movie. By: Timmy L.
Well, we really enjoyed your choice of words, like the word "stellar." We also thought you picked a classically hilarious movie; who doesn't love Stepbrothers? You went in depth when analyzing the acting and the scenes. However, some phrases were repetitive, and overall you need to proofread to avoid run-ons and fragments. Work on your grammar and your ideas can really shine. Keep up the good work! We love you, sincerely, Period 1

<= THIS to THIS => If you want the Mogwai there are three rules u have to fallow; No water at all don’t give it any to drink and most import don’t give it a bath, keep it out of the light he hates bright light and sunlight will kill him. And most important, NO matter how bad he cries no matter how much he begs don’t ever feed him after midnight. Gremlins was made in 1984 directed by Joe Date with actors Zach Gallign, Phobe Cates, and Scott Brandy.
Mayhem and destruction happen in the small town of Kingston Falls just outside of Norman Rockwell all because those three rules were broken by accidently by Billy who got a Mogwai as gift from his father from Chinatown for Christmas. That night, Gizmo gets a glass of water is accidentally spilled on him, causing him to convulse and produce five new Mogwai from his own body. One of the Mogwai, named Stripe for his white mohalke hair, acts as their leader, but is very mean to Gizmo. Curious to learn more about Mogwai, Billy takes Gizmo to his science teacher, Mr. Hanson, Leaving one with him, on which he will conduct tests.
Billy returns home, and the other five Mogwai trick him into feeding them after midnight by biting the cord of his alarm clock. In the morning, Billy discovers the Mogwai have turned into cocoon like things. Which hatch and run ramped in the town till they are killed by bill and his friend.
I liked this movie a lot it is a fun classic that will make you laugh out loud, although out-dated effects by modern standards, it’s still a really fun watch and will always be worth your time. It’s a timeless movie for any age (quote from the move).“So, when your washing machine blows up or your TV goes on the fritz, before you call the repair man, turn on all the lights and look under all the beds,Cause you never can tell, there just might be a gremlin in your house. The bright sunny beach is where you find harry. He’s standing at Dobby’s grave. The movie quickly takes a turn for the worst. Harry, Ron, and Hermione have to go around the world to find the remaining two horcruxes to make Voldemort mortal again. The effects of the fight scenes between the numerous people were amazing. The way they made harry and Voldemort’s final fight scene was amazing. Everything looked like it could really happen in real life. The cast was the best part of the whole series. Without these actors and actresses, the movie would be horrible. The very first scene really grabbed at your heart with Harry Standing on the beach, staring at one of his closest friends grave Dobby. That is the possibly the best scene in the movie because even though it’s a sad part, it’s the brightest the movie will be until the end. Once they leave the house they are staying at, they have to find the two remaining horcruxes in the wizard world to make Voldemort mortal to finally rid the world of the biggest evil of all time. The whole time harry, Ron, and Hermione have to go through the toughest challenges like going through the gringots roller coaster and fighting magical beings just to destroy one gold cup. Then they have to fight a dragon and wizard guards just to make it out of the place. They thin have to fight all of voldemort’s followers in an epic battle at Hogwarts. The fight scene at Hogwarts was just an all around digital masterpiece. Every looked so real that the characters looked like a cartoon. Every little spell was like a small balloon with a bright light in the middle. When all the teachers of Hogwarts put a force field around the school and all the stone giants came jumping down from the ceiling was so realistic, like real people came jumping down. Finally, when harry and voldemort fought and harry disintegrated voldemort was just like paper being ripped up and thrown into the wind. Without Daniel Radcliff, Emma Watson, and Rupert grint, the movies never would’ve been a success. The way they all played their parts out to the fullest was awesome. The director later said that they had to write letters to the other main characters at least once a week on how they could be better. This really helped everyone that was a part of this movie. Knowing that you can trust one another is what the director was trying to promote for the movie. Harry knew he could trust his family and friends on his journey in the movie and he’s been known to say that even when he was having problems in his everyday life, he would talk to Rupert or Emma before his own parents or family members. He also said that Emma and Rupert were his new brother and sister along with Matthew (Neville). The whole series was possibly the best movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Between them having to find the horcruxes to the effects to the cast. Nothing will ever beat it. By: DHamp
Sucker Punch
Imagine losing your mother and your sister is killed, but you are the one who is blamed and considered crazy. In the movie Sucker Punch, directed by Zack Snyder and released in 2011, Babydoll (Emily Browning) is the main character and this was the reality for her. Her stepfather gets angry after finding out Babydoll’s mom left her fortune to her daughters. He kills her younger sister and blames Baby for going crazy. The only thing she’s concerned about is leaving the facility he puts her in after claiming she is violent.
Babydoll has been through a lot with her evil stepfather. The gruesome sadness of losing her mother and sister in the same night only makes her misery more unbearable. Her hunger for freedom grows increasingly intense with each passing day she has to learn to push all that aside and dance, if she does not dance then there is no need for her existence. The pressure is on with Blue, the mean guy who controls everything and everyone at the place, she must make sure it’s perfect. While being locked away she finds four true friends who stick to a life-threatening plan to escape. Sweet Pea, Rocket, Blondie, and Amber are some of the victims who come together with Babydoll’s plan. When baby gets up and daces she goes into an imaginary world that she uses for inspiration that says she’ll escape the place one day.
There was only one big theme I got out of this movie and it made a big impact on me, when all hope is lost, fight; No matter how great the cost. In the movie, it talks about how your guardian is all around you. "Everyone has an angel. A guardian that watches over them. But we can't know what form they'll take. One day old man, the next day little girl. But don't let appearances fool you. They can be as fierce as any dragon. Then can speak through any character we can imagine. They'll shout through demons if they have to- daring us, challenging us to fight." This was the opening quote in Sucker Punch and I think it says it all. When you have nowhere to turn, focus on the light and you can make it out of any tough situation. People now a days let too many things bring them down and always ask for advice and still stay in the same problem for a long time. People need to learn how to fight away fears and negativity that brings them down and find a way to ward it all off. Once you find out what your mission is to ward it off, your half way done the battle.
Most of the negative comments about the movie was how it targeted the male audience too much. ‘The hypocrisy of Sucker Punch is that it portends to supplant traditional objectified-female eroticism with violence, but all it does is turn said violence into another form of fetishized display for its largely male audience’ was one of the comments with low ratings. But that was one of the parts of the movie, you cant expect a CGI madhouse where girls are suppose to get up and dance be completely modern clothed. The movie did do a good job finding a way to make even that kind of clothing ‘appropriate’ so there wouldn’t be too much showing. I believe they handled this is a good way so it could even be a good action family movie.

It was a good hook, and Janaya wants to hang out. But you are missing a thesis at the end of your intro. We like your use of a quote from the movie, and you did a great job explaining it. Iris wants to go to the movies with you, but not in a weird way. Thanks, Period 6 Kristina, you have an amazing review. Reading this makes me want to go home and rent it on demand. I love the quote you put in it and maybe we can hang out and watch it one day over the weekend. Great review. Amanda T. Step Brothers
Imagine that you were a “mama’s boy” and you still live with her at the age of 40 and she found a new guy that she likes. He also has a son that is also in his 40’s and lives with him. How easy would it be for them to get along when they both act 12? They have to learn how to get along to make this work for the best. They constantly butt heads and have full out brawls between the two grown men. They soon realize that they have to grow up fast in order to keep the family together. The movie was first shown on July 25th of 2008. Adam McKay did some phenomenal directing. Will Ferrell and John Reilly did some fantastic acting to go along with the well shot film. The movie Step Brothers has comedic writing done by both actors Will Ferrell and John Reilly also director Adam Mckay, with some amazing acting by the cast.
In one point in the movie they perform a song on Dale’s dads precious boat that he put his heart in. They get all these girls and video cameras. They took a long time to get the video and music together. They finally show Dr. Doback at his birthday party. The video was really provocative and mentioned foul language. They end up crashing the boat and crushing his dads dreams.

January 2011 Movie Review
Brides maids
“ A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and sings it back to you when you have forgotten how it goes”
- Unknown Author
This movie shows how true friendship always shines through. Although sometimes you have to dig to find it you, always have that one person that will always be there for you. The main Character Annie (Kristen Wiig) and, her bestfriend who is also the bride Lillain (Maya Rudolph) are the best of friends and they have been since they were little. Lillan is getting married and asks Annie to be her bridesmaid. Lillan then tells Annie that her friend is flying in, and she tries to take over the whole wedding. This Movie was filled with great laughs, wild antics and beautiful friend ship and romance.
My favorite part of this movie was when Melissa Mcarthy who played Megan, was at the Bridal shower and took not all but most of the puppies that they were giving out as favors. Another great scene was when Helen gave Annie something to calm down on the plane, because annie had never ridden a plane before. It wasn’t clear what Helen had handed her but, it was some kind of drug because Annie was going crazy on the plane. She couldn’t afford a first class ticket so she had to ride coach, although she was in coach she had no problem trying to sneak up to the front. There was also this one scene where they were trying on bridesmaids dresses after eating at a Mexican restaurant and they all must have gotten food poisoning because the one girl was defecating in the sink. One was throwing up in the toilet, the bride defecated in the street. One girl also had to throw up on another’s head because both of their heads wouldn’t fit in the toilet. Annie trying to act like she was better than Helen said she felt fine, trying to hold down her puke, she said she was actually hungry so helen took out peanuts and Annie not letter Helen get the upper hand ate the peanuts.
Also in this movie I love how they portray friendship. Annie really messes things up with Lillian but, in all honesty I think it was Helens fault. Annie ends up walking out of the bridal shower, leaving Lillian and everybody else speechless. This is where friendship really starts to play in. Megan with her many puppies comes by Annie’s mothers house to talk to her and get her out of a funk. The day of the wedding Annie’s mother tries to get her out of bed to go to Lillians wedding but she refuses. While walking back to bed there’s a knock at the door. Its Helen begging for Annie to help find Lillian, they drive all around town, come to find out Lillian was in her bed the whole time. Helen wouldn’t have known that because all along Annie was Lillian’s true friend.
Lastly, and my favorite thing about movies was the romance. Annie pre owned a bakery and lost it. Forcing her to move back in with her mother and to drive a crappy car, also having no money. One night when Annie is driving home she gets pulled over for a tail light being out, the cop lets her off with a warning. A few days later she sees the cop yet again in a local store, they sit on his police car and talk for hours. She tells him about her failing cake business, and they hit it off. They went home together. The next morning Annie wakes up in the cops bed, and she walks out of his bed room, where you see things to make cake, she gets mad said it was a big mistake and storms out. Which I thought was ridiculous. Later on in the movie she realizes she was wrong and makes him an I’m sorry carrot cake. She then continuously drives past his house, the cake continues to sit outside. She really wants to talk to him so she drives by him doing countless illegal things trying to get his attention.
In conclusion, just like all other romance movie this ends like all others. They Bride and the groom get a beautiful wedding which is one of my favorite scenes because they get married on the water which is breathtaking. Annie and Lillian are best friends again, Helen realizes she was wrong and apologizes for almost ruining a long term friendship Annie and the cop are together. And Megan came to the wedding with her adorable puppies.

Kristina, you are sitting in this room, and you may find this slightly awkward. But oh well and deal with it.... we liked the first sentence of your review. It was a good hook, and Janaya wants to hang out. But you are missing a thesis at the end of your intro. We like your use of a quote from the movie, and you did a great job explaining it. Iris wants to go to the movies with you, but not in a weird way. Thanks, Period 6
Kristina, you have an amazing review. Reading this makes me want to go home and rent it on demand. I love the quote you put in it and maybe we can hang out and watch it one day over the weekend. Great review. Amanda T. Broadwater
Kristina i like your quote that you put from the movie and you make me want to go home and watch the movie myself. -Devon S.
The movie Step Brothers has comedic writing done by both actors Will Ferrell and John Reilly also director Adam Mckay, with some amazing acting by the cast.In one point in the movie they perform a song on Dale’s dads precious boat that he put his heart in.
